Just thinking about it is probably enough to make you run home to hug your own furry source of unconditional love. The megaphone that the family had used to call for him during the search is still prominently displayed at the Marshall house. On Oct. 25 at 2 a.m., Marshall’s mother received a call from a police officer reporting that Gonker had been spotted eating from trash cans behind a ski resort. The pooch had wandered an incredible 111 miles in 15 days, covering at least seven miles a day, looking for a way home. “The family is fearful that is hungry, confused and frightened,” an Oct. 15 news story read. The family began getting tips — few of them helpful.

This book is all of those things and so much more. In Shelby's Story, as with many other bestselling W. Bruce Cameron novels, we get to experience the world from a dog's innocent perspective. This story is delightfully peppered throughout with Cameron's signature sense of humor, and includes special guest appearances by the author and his wife, Cathryn Michon, as two of the story's characters. I will be rereading this book just before I go see the movie, A Dog's Way Home.

While Bella’s story is truly an amazing one, Bobbie, a Scotch Collie/English Shepherd mix, tops her trek by about 2,000 miles. Bobbie’s story begins back in 1923 when he was with his family visiting relatives in Wolcott, Indiana. History is full of stories about persistent pooches who have made their way across hundreds, even thousands of miles to find their families.

Story

Delightful book which is made for children but I enjoyed it. Any dog lover would love the story that Shelby tells of her life from a puppy to a movie star. The story never addresses the issue of whether Shelby was spayed but she did not have puppies in this story. I read this book over the summer and I thought it was amazing and very thoughtful.

When we set out to make the movie A Dog's Way Home, we decided that all of the movie star dogs needed to be rescues. I feel it is really important that everyone understand that rescue dogs can do anything, and that they can make wonderful companions. Bruce Cameron’s new book, A Dog’s Way Home, seems like a sweet story about a dog’s journey to be reunited with her beloved human. But woven into this tale of a dog’s devotion are dangerous and misleading messages about breed-specific protection and the people who work to help homeless animals, as well as misunderstood wildlife. This story is about one of the dog actors in the A Dog's Way Home movie which was really cool to discover. I even laughed when I realized that the author had written himself into the story.

Lost your way?

Bruce Cameron and his team of movie productions had to search far and wide for the perfect dog, until they foun Shelby. She;by was perfect for the movie, and was trained well enough to become the main star. Shelby does struggle to understand the strange ways of humans, and how they do things that she doesn’t understand.

And I lost her just as I was starting to leave childhood behind, passing on after I’d spent a year in college. I have read a lot of Bruce’s books more than once, definitely my favorite author. I cant wait for the movie comes out, but before that, ide like the read the book.

A Dog's Way Home isn't based on a true story, but there are real dogs who've gone the distance to return home to their owners. You can find heartwarming stories all over the web about dogs who have traveled tens of miles to get home after being lost. A few articles, like this one published by People, even recount stories of dogs traveling hundreds of miles to get home, like Bella does in the movie. I love any and all dog books, ESPECIALLY when they’re written by W.

It made $3.3 million on its first day, including $535,000 from Thursday night previews. It went on to have a debut of $11.3 million, finishing third at the box office, behind The Upside and holdover Aquaman. In its second weekend the film made $7.1 million, finishing sixth. However, Bella misses Lucas and leaves Farmington and begins a 400-mile journey home, which will take more than two years to complete. The three men give Bella food at their campsite and upon learning who her owner is, try to call Lucas, only to be scared away by the sudden arrival of Big Kitten.

I never saw any of the things these other reviews point out. I went home and hugged my two American Staffordshire Terriers very tight. My 9 year old son couldn't make it past the first 1/3 of the movie he was crying so badly.

But when animal control deems Bella dangerous (because she's part pit) and threatens euthanasia, Lucas teaches her a game called "Go Home" in which she races back to their house. After Lucas is forced to place Bella in the temporary care of Olivia's aunt and uncle in New Mexico, Bella believes she must play "Go Home" and begins her long, perilous journey home. Shelby was living in a junk yard in rural Tennessee. She was picked up by animal control and, when her photograph showed up on social media, she looked like she could be the perfect fit we were looking for.

But Buhler never thought the darling dog would go onto movie stardom. After briefly reuniting with Mother Cat, Bella reaches the city's VA hospital, where she joyfully reunites with Lucas, Terri, and Olivia. Chuck claims that he needs to confiscate Bella again, with the threat to have Lucas and anyone who interferes arrested otherwise. Captain Mica allows Lucas to keep Bella as he has no jurisdiction. Fortunately, A Dog's Way Home isn't so much about a dog leaving its family for good, because Bella does whatever she can to get back to her owner, Lucas.
